Eric Biondi, MD:  Dr. Biondi is piloting the evidence-based Check and Connect mentoring program with ten 7th grade students who are at “high drop-out risk” through a collaboration with the Southwest Area Neighborhood Association, Inc. (SWAN).
This project is funded by a grant from the CPAC Small Grants Program

Elizabeth Cherella, MD


Elizabeth Cherella, MD  

Dr. Cherella’s project is focused around educating pediatricians about palliative care and how it can benefit their patients, and the community’s chronically ill children and their families.





Geoffrey Collins, MD


Geoffrey Collins, MD:  Dr. Collins has established the Cyclopedia Rochester program which in cooperation with the Boys & Girls club aims to empower, educate and enhance the fitness of city youth through a mentored bicycling exploration experience.

Elizabeth Diekroger, MD and Rebecca Pratt, MD:  Drs. Diekroger and Pratt’s project is focused on improving the basic literacy skills of early elementary children in the Rochester area through the use of
music-assisted learning.  They hope to help these children stay on track in their education and gain the life skills necessary to function successfully as adults.

Anne Huber, MD, MPH, Manisha Relan, MD and Hilary Southerland, MD:
Drs.  Huber, Relan and Southerland are focusing on educating providers in primary care clinics to encourage use of evidence-based contraception in patients, thereby decreasing teen pregnancy rates in Rochester.

Charity Karpac, MD
Charity Karpac, MD:  Dr. Karpac adapted a health literacy seminar series that is currently being administered to parents of children at School #22 as part of the Family C.A.R.E.E.R.S. program, which is an existing family literacy and workforce development program.

Participants are learning skills necessary to navigate the health care
system, provide basic supportive care for common childhood illnesses, and engage in more productive communication with their health care providers.




Abigail Kroening, MD


Abigail Kroening, MD:  Dr. Kroening has developed a community health presence at Family Court and its associated Children’s Center to provide on-site assistance and support for families in need of medical and public services.

Melissa Schafer, MD


Melissa Schafer, MD
Dr. Schafer started a pilot, which seeks to close the communication gap between pediatricians, and school nurses, and bring kids with
uncontrolled asthma to the attention of the pediatrician in a more timely manner with a new fax form.

Andrew Sherman, MD

Andrew Sherman, MD:  Dr. Sherman has continued the work he began as a medical student, to deliver insecticide-treated bed nets and health education to impoverished malaria-infested areas in West Africa as a part of his Netlife project.
